(Early morning) public transport connections to MUC / Munich airport

Was looking for a hotel and transportation for an upcoming trip. Flying into and out of MUC / Flughafen Müchen / Munich airport. And the return flight out of MUC is very early, too early to drive there in the morning. So we were looking to stay in a hotel near the airport for the last night.
The on-airport hotel is expensive - certainly not worth paying that price for a half night's worth of sleep. And a lot of other hotels nearby didn't have shuttles that early in the morning, or charged a lot for them.
So I looked around and - after quite a bit of searching - found the public transport possibilities for MUC at early morning time.

The transit lines to the airport are
- rail lines S1 & S8
- bus lines 512 & 635

S1 & S8 to the airport run from Munich city area to the airport. Couldn't find any suitable hotels nearby the S1 or S8 stations.

Bus line 512 runs from Erding to MUC, first bus in the morning arrives at the airport at 3.42am. The bus route starts in downtown Erding and runs through Niederding/Oberding/Aufkirchen and Schwaig to the airport. There were quite a few suitable hotels along that route with early morning bus connection.

Bus line 635 runs from Freising to MUC, first bus in the morning arrives at the airport at 4.26am. The bus route starts in downtown Freising and only has one more stop on the way to the airport. Couldn't find any suitable hotels nearby the 635 route.

One more option would be the combination of bus line 698 which circles Hallbergmoos and connects it to the S8 station Hallbergmoos. The earliest connection that way arrives at the airport at 4.15am. There were a few suitable hotels in Hallbergmoos as well.

Prices for the above routes when leaving from nearby the airport and going to the airport are between 2 to 3 Euros.

This information was gathered in early 2013 for a Wednesday departure in March 2013. Weekend transit schedules will be different.
